Audio Speaker Cable

A:An audio speaker cable (also called speaker wire) is a two-conductor cable that carries the amplified, high-level audio signal from a power amplifier to a passive loudspeaker. Because the signal is low-impedance and high-current rather than a sensitive line-level one, shielding is unnecessary; what matters is conductor cross-sectional area, conductor material (OFC copper or CCA), DC resistance and strand flexibility. Common sizes run from 0.35 mm² to 6.0 mm² (24AWG -10 AWG).

A: OFC (oxygen-free copper) has roughly 100% IACS conductivity and the lowest possible DC resistance for a given size. CCA (copper clad aluminium) has an aluminium core with a thin copper layer and about 60–65% the conductivity of copper, so the same nominal size gives roughly 40–50% higher resistance, and it must be upsized by one or two AWG steps to match an OFC run. CCA is lighter and cheaper and suits short, budget or car audio runs; OFC is the right choice for long runs, 4 Ω loads, 70 V/100 V distributed systems and any installation where voltage drop and long-term corrosion resistance matter.

A: Size the cable by run length and load impedance, keeping insertion loss below about 5%. For an 8 Ω load the field guide is: 18 AWG (0.75 mm²) up to 15 m, 16 AWG (1.5 mm²) up to 24 m, 14 AWG (2.5 mm²) up to 40 m, 12 AWG (4.0 mm²) up to 60 m and 10 AWG (6.0 mm²) up to 90 m. For a 4 Ω load, halve those distances. For 70 V/100 V constant-voltage systems, size by total load wattage and run length - send us the schedule and we will calculate it.

A: We declare the conductor material on every quotation and every packing label - OFC or CCA, strand count and maximum DC resistance per batch. If you specify OFC, you receive OFC; we do not silently substitute CCA to hold a price point. Buyers are welcome to verify with their own resistance measurement or a third-party inspection before shipment.

A:Yes. Constant-voltage 70 V and 100 V distributed systems are standard in retail, hospitality, education and transport projects. We supply the larger cross-sections and low-resistance OFC constructions these trunks need, with sizing support and voltage-drop calculations for long runs, plus plenum and riser rated versions where the building requires them.
