Alarm Cable - Multi-Core Stranded Copper for Alarm & Access Control Systems

Alarm cable is a multi-conductor stranded copper cable designed to connect the components of a security system - control panels, PIR sensors, door contacts, keypads, sirens, access control readers and fire alarm devices. It is available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 cores, shielded (for EMC-prone environments) or unshielded, with a PVC or LSZH flame-retardant jacket and CPR EN 50575 fire performance. Jiaxing Doublewin Cable Co., Ltd manufactures this cable in-house in Haiyan, Zhejiang, China, and supplies it in bulk to security installers, distributors and OEM/ODM partners worldwide.

Why Choose Our Alarm Cable

A security system is only as reliable as the wiring that connects it. Our security alarm cable is built with consistent conductor resistance, colour-coded cores for fault-free termination, and a durable flame-retardant jacket that meets building fire regulations. Whether the run is in a domestic loft, a commercial ceiling void or a cable trunking system, the cable delivers dependable signal integrity between every device and the control panel.

2 / 4 / 6 / 8 Core Options

From simple 2-core sensor loops to 8-core runs for multi-device zones, all stocked and customisable.

Shielded or Unshielded

Overall foil/braid shield available for high-EMI environments near mains, motors or RF equipment.

Stranded Copper Conductors

Flexible stranded bare copper (CCA on request) for easy handling and vibration-resistant terminations.

Colour-Coded Cores

Standard BS / EN colour codes (brown, blue, green-yellow, etc.) for fast, error-free wiring.

Available Sizes & Conductor Construction

Our alarm cable is supplied in a range of core counts and conductor sizes. Each conductor uses multi-stranded copper wire for flexibility:

Conductor Size (AWG)    Core Count Conductor Construction                     (per core) Strand Diameter Nominal Area Typical Use
   22AWG    2 / 4 / 6 / 8C 7 / 0.20 mm stranded          0.2mm     0.22 mm² Short runs, low-current sensors, keypads
   20AWG    2 / 4 / 6 / 8C 10 / 0.20 mm stranded           0.2mm     0.22 mm² Standard alarm runs, access control readers
   18AWG    2 / 4 / 6 / 8C 16 / 0.20 mm stranded            0.2mm     0.22 mm² Longer runs, sirens, higher-current devices
   16AWG    2 / 4 / 6 / 8C 26 / 0.20 mm stranded            0.2mm     0.22 mm² Power runs, fire alarm sounders, heavy loads

Conductor material: Stranded bare copper (standard) or copper-clad aluminium (CCA) on request. Stranding: multi-stranded (Class 5 flexible). Custom sizes available on request.

 Alarm Cable Applications

Alarm cable is the backbone of any wired security installation, carrying power, data and tamper signals between every device and the control panel:

security alarm wire

Intruder / Burglar Alarm Systems

PIR sensors, door/window contacts, glass-break detectors, keypads and sirens connected to a control panel.

burglar alarm cable

Access Control

Card readers, fingerprint readers, electric locks, request-to-exit buttons and door position switches.

intruder alarm cable

Fire & Smoke Alarm

Smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual call points, sounders and fire control panels.

fire alarm & security cable

Intercoms & Video Entry

Audio and video intercom systems, door entry panels and multi-tenant apartment systems.

For high-EMI environments (near transformers, motors, fluorescent lighting or radio equipment), specify the shielded version and terminate the drain wire at one end only to avoid ground loops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is alarm cable?

A: Alarm cable is a multi-conductor stranded copper cable designed to connect the components of a security system - control panels, PIR sensors, door contacts, keypads, sirens, access control readers and fire alarm devices. It is available in 2, 4, 6 and 8 cores, shielded or unshielded, with a PVC or LSZH flame-retardant jacket and CPR EN 50575 fire performance.

Q: What core count alarm cable do I need?

A: It depends on the device. 2-core is used for simple sensors (PIR, door contact, siren); 4-core for keypads, dual-technology sensors and access control readers; 6-core for multi-sensor zones and addressable devices; 8-core for complex access control, intercoms and runs requiring spare capacity. Always install at least one spare core if space allows.

Q: When should I use shielded alarm cable?

A: Use shielded alarm cable where alarm wiring runs alongside power lines or interference-generating equipment. Its shielding suppresses electromagnetic noise to avoid signal distortion and false alarms. It applies to long-distance runs, industrial sites and projects requiring shielded wiring per design standards.

Q: What is the difference between PVC and LSZH alarm cable?

A: PVC jacket is the standard, flexible and cost-effective option for most residential and commercial installations. LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) jacket emits very little smoke and no toxic halogen gases when burned, making it mandatory in many public buildings, tunnels and enclosed spaces where occupant safety during a fire is critical.

Q: Are you a security alarm cable manufacturer or a trading company?

A: We are a manufacturer. Jiaxing Doublewin Cable Co., Ltd owns and operates its factory in Haiyan, Zhejiang, where we draw conductors, extrude insulation, cable the cores, apply shielding and sheath, and test finished cables in-house. You are welcome to visit our plant or request a live video tour.
